.
A few of us at Frampton Park have got together and are starting a new monthly meeting. We meeting once a month on a Saturday night. The purpose of the evening is to encourage us in our worship and service of the Lord Jesus Christ and to learn what this could look like if we were more honest as we strive to reflect Christ, individually and as a community. The evening will include food, drink, teaching, drama, musical worship, poetry, fun, videos, discussion and whatever else will help us in our journey to become more like Jesus.
It will take place one Saturday a month at Frampton Park Baptist Church, starting at 6.30 and probably finishing between 9.00 – 9.30pm. The evening will start with some simple food at 6.30pm and the meeting will commence at 7.00pm.
Everybody is welcome, whatever your age or circumstances. It is open to people from Frampton Park but we would really welcome people from other churches, faiths and communities to join with us on this journey of discovery.
Purpose
John 4:21-24 from The Message:
"Believe me, woman, the time is coming when you Samaritans will worship the Father neither here at this mountain nor there in Jerusalem. You worship guessing in the dark; we Jews worship in the clear light of day. God's way of salvation is made available through the Jews. But the time is coming—it has, in fact, come—when what you're called will not matter and where you go to worship will not matter. "It's who you are and the way you live that count before God. Your worship must engage your spirit in the pursuit of truth. That's the kind of people the Father is out looking for: those who are simply and honestly themselves before him in their worship. God is sheer being itself—Spirit. Those who worship him must do it out of their very being, their spirits, their true selves, in adoration."
We hope that at each Swerve evening people will come and meet with God through the worship and content of the evening. We hope and pray that each person will be touched by the Holy Spirit. We pray that mind sets will be challenged and together we will discover more of who Jesus is and how he wants us to behave and live.
The aim is to encourage a community atmosphere, a safe place for people to express their hopes and fears, their doubts and stories of their spiritual journey, whatever that might be.
We want to create a time when people can get to know each other better, a place where they can rest in Gods presence together and receive from him.
We don’t want to be restricted by the traditions of churchmanship we may come from but to step out and see what God wants to do amongst us, building on each persons experience, encouraging a wide range of worship styles, but using musical worship as a core part of each evening. We want to be creative in our worship and in our response.
We want to be true to scripture in all that we do.
We hope that it is a place that people who don’t know Jesus yet can come and meet with Him. A place where we all understand more what it is to be in a relationship with Jesus and to be a community of people following Jesus. What should that community look like when together we reflect Jesus?
Prayer
We want to make prayer central to this evening and therefore encourage you to pray that God’s Holy Spirit will be present at each Swerve evening in very obvious ways.
There will be a “prayer square” at each evening. People will be available to pray with you throughout the evening.
A Swerve web community
We hope to start discussion group and share stories on the internet. We would therefore love to know your details and give you access to the forums pages of our web site. Please apply to become a member of our web community. (see front page of FPBC web site) The page will have links to any projects high lighted in the service. Recordings of any talks will be made and put on the site.
